Bob Edwards, 80, was struck and killed by a concrete truck on Interstate 71 Thursday morning, causing the road to be shutdown for two hours.
Edwards was driving southbound in his Honda Accord when he pulled off onto the shoulder, got out of his car and walked into traffic, according to witnesses.
The truck driver attempted to swerve to avoid the man but did strike him. The truck then hit a minivan traveling in the center lane, causing minor damage. Neither the cement truck or minivan drivers were injured, according to the police.
The Hamilton County Sheriff's Office is still investigating why the man was in traffic.
Edwards was awarded the Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis Jefferson Award, the Nobel Prize for public service in 2010 for his community volunteer efforts..
