Local phone scam asks for money, claims to be Hamilton County Lieutenant

HAMILTON COUNTY, OH (FOX19) -

Hamilton County Sheriff Jim Neil reported that there has been a phone scam going around from a person claiming to be a Lieutenant with the Hamilton County Sheriff's Office.

According to Sheriff Neil, the suspect has been calling residents and former-residents of Hamilton County claiming they have missed court appearances and/or jury duty. 

The suspect instructs the individuals to provide payment utilizing a moneypak to avoid the issuance of an arrest warrant.

Anyone receiving phone calls of this nature are asked to contact their local police agency or the Hamilton County Sheriff's Office.

The phone calls are under investigation.
