The victim told police two men approached him in the 900 block of Elberon Avenue about 10 p.m.
They tried to rob the man, but the man refused to become a victim and smashed one robber's face into a car, said Lt. Tim Brown, the night chief.
The second suspect fired a gunshot at the victim, but he was not hit or injured.
The gunman ran off, and the victim continued attacking the other suspect, 20.
Police arrived, and the suspect was taken to University of Cincinnati Medical Center with severe facial injuries, Brown said.
He is expected to recover and will be booked into the Hamilton County jail on an aggravated robbery charge.
