Dimebag's Memorial

Fans mourn murdered rock guitarist at Texas memorial service

Fans of rock guitarist "Dimebag" Darrell Abbott have turned out by the thousands to pay tribute to the murdered musician at a Texas memorial service. Grieving fans waited in line in near-freezing temperatures. Cars in the Arlington convention center parking lot had messages scrawled on them such as "RIP Dime" and "Honk, honk for Dimebag, Peace in the after life." Abbott was shot to death in Columbus, Ohio, while performing with his new band, Damageplan. Police killed the gunman, but not before he fatally shot three other people. The shooter is thought to have been a fan obsessed with Abbott's former band, Pantera. Rick Cunningham, former lead singer for the band "Rage," was among the mourners. He called Abbott "the nicest fella you would ever want to meet."
