Jackson Seeks Trial Delay

Jackson's lawyers seek delay in trial

Michael Jackson's lawyers went to court today to seek a six-week delay in his child molestation trial. The defense says it needs the extra time to sort through 14-thousand pages of evidence filed by prosecutors over the past two months. The trial is expected to begin January 31st. Prosecutors had also been expected to argue today that they should be allowed to present evidence of wrongdoing in the entertainer's past at his trial. But according to a court calendar, that motion won't be brought up until next month. In their motion, Jackson's attorneys asked that the trial be delayed until mid-March. They also asked that the charges against Jackson be dismissed on grounds of -- quoting here -- "vindictive prosecution and outrageous government conduct." They pointed to the execution of more than 100 search warrants, including this month's raid on Jackson's estate near Los Olivos.
