CLIFTON, OH (FOX19) - Hundreds of new and brighter LED street lights are up and running in and around the University of Cincinnati.
Work was completed Monday to install 321 of the lights for increased visibility and student safety on Riddle, Straight, Seminole and Probasco streets, said Sally Thelen, a Duke Energy spokeswoman. Lights already were installed on Stratford Avenue in August.
The utility teamed up with university officials and the city of Cincinnati on the project, one that remains ongoing. Talks are underway to bring additional lights near campus at some point in the future, she said.
"The collaboration between UC, Duke Energy & the City on the public safety project sets a new standard for such partnerships," UC President Santa J. Ono tweeted Thursday morning
The university is covering most of the cost.
