HAMILTON COUNTY, OH (FOX19) -

A man is recovering after two tires flew off a dump truck and smashed into his car on Ronald Reagan Highway Wednesday afternoon.

The crash happened around 1:30 p.m. near mile marker 12. The two left lanes of the highway were closed while crews investigated.

According to authorities, an axle on the dump truck broke and two tires that were tethered together flew off, heading eastbound and then into the westbound lanes. The tires struck the drivers side of a BMW, smashing the door and the front of the car. The driver was briefly trapped in his car.

Luckily, the man only suffered minor injuries. He was transported to University of Cincinnati Medical Center for treatment.

The highway in that area is now back open.
