Top 6 places to take your kids this holiday season

Looking for fun, local places to take your family this holiday season?

There's a wide variety of options, from old-fashioned Christmas parades to an extravaganza of lights or a nativity drama at the Creation Museum in Northern Kentucky.

1. Lebanon Holiday Parade: Thousands converge in downtown Lebanon the first Saturday each December for this family parade and festival.

2. Metamora Christmas Tree Lighting and Christmas Walk: The hour drive to this southeastern Indiana community is worth it for a traditional tree lighting ceremony and Christmas walk the Saturday night before Thanksgiving.

3. U.S. Bank Ice Skating Rink on Fountain Square: Ice skating, hot chocolate and live music! It must be winter in downtown Cincinnati when the ice rink opens the weekend before Thanksgiving through most of February, weather permitting.

4. Festival of Lights at the Cincinnati Zoo: You know Christmas is coming when the Cincinnati Zoo lights up in an illuminated extravaganza of holiday colors. Zoo season pass holders get in for free. Half price tickets are available at participating Skyline Chili locations.

5. Nothing says Christmas like the world's largest train display amid a winter wonderland and toy workshop at EnterTrainment Junction in West Chester Township. Santa Claus visits daily at 11 a.m.
