BOONE CO., KY (FOX19) -
Investigators are trying to figure out why a tanker truck driver took a route on a steep road in Boone County that ended in a dangerous wreck.
Police say the truck driver, identified as Dave Hissong, 41, was traveling from Troy, Ohio to Louisville with a load of food waste and water.
Hissong was driving down Big Jimmy Hill Road in Belleview when he dove out of the truck and into a ditch.
Authorities say the road is about one-half mile long and very steep.
After he jumped out, the truck crossed the intersection at Dale Williamson Road and jack-knifed. It then rolled over, causing the cab to separate from the trailer. The cab caught on fire and was completely destroyed.
Hissong was recovered in a ditch by a passing driver, officials say.
He was transported to University of Cincinnati Medical Center by AirCare. Authorities have not said how serious his injuries are.
Investigators are still working on identifying what trucking company Hissong was working for and why he chose the route he did.
Crews will have to be on scene for several hours cleaning up after the wreck,
