NORWOOD, OH (FOX19) - Police called it a case of being in the wrong place at the wrong time
After returning from dinner Nov. 16 of last year, police say someone shot 20-year-old Portia Brooks and her boyfriend Aron Martin while attempting to rob them. Martin survived one gunshot wound to the head but Portia passed away three days later.
"I just want my baby back and that is something that I can't have," said Sharon Brooks, Portia's mother.
Police believe Portia's death was the result of an attempted robbery gone wrong but despite community efforts, the killer has yet to be arrested.
"He was so cold hearted to shoot Aron, to shoot Portia, and to take my baby away. He will do it again and another family will be in my place," said Sharon Brooks.
At the time Norwood police released surveillance video of three people walking toward the scene at the time Portia and her boyfriend were shot. Now, they are releasing a new sketch of a person they would like to talk to in connection with the incident saying the description was given to them by eyewitnesses.
"It helps to know people are speaking out and being the voice for her," said Tia Marie Brooks, Portia's sister.
Portia's family is grateful tips continue to come in regarding the shooting. They hope this new sketch will bring in new leads and eventually the person responsible for the murder of Portia Lyn Brooks.
"I'm confident that we'll get justice. I am. It doesn't bring her back but I know somebody is going to come forward," said Sharon Brooks.
