FAIRFIELD, OH (FOX19) -

A new app allows customers to feel safe about having online purchases being dropped off at their homes.

For the past 28 years, Relay Express has been providing storage and delivery service to a variety of companies.

Relay Express CEO, Jim Bernecker, says they're now launching a web based application to make Relay Express available to the general public. “A lot of times we understand that there are thefts with deliveries from common carriers like UPS and FedEx,” said the CEO.

Thieves have been known to actually follow delivery trucks and steal packages left out in the open.

Relay Express prides itself on being a safer alternative to shipping. Not just having the package delivered, but delivered to the rightful owner.

“Items like ammo and alcohol that have to be signed for so we see this as an opportunity to allow everyone to do their online purchases and designate Relay Express as a delivery point,” Bernecker said.

The delivery service also wants the process of signing up to be as smooth as possible.

“You create an account online that does not require a credit card. It will give you a four digit number. It will give you our address and you will simply designate your package to relay express to your name and your ID number,” said the CEO.

Once the package is delivered to Relay Express it's stored in their secure warehouse and held for pickup or they'll deliver it. “We offer a flat rate delivery inside 30-miles of our Fairfield location which reaches well into Northern Kentucky as well as to our neighbors north in the greater Dayton area,” Bernecker said.

There are about 160 Relay Express delivery drivers all across the Midwest.
