HAMILTON, OH (FOX19) - An inmate who escaped from a Kentucky prison last week and has ties to the Tri-State is back behind bars.

Joshua Stephenson, 23, was taken into custody in Hamilton early Thursday.

Police received a tip he was hiding in a Maple Avenue apartment that belongs to the mother of his child, said Officer Kristy Collins, police spokeswoman.

When officers knocked on the front door about 12:30 a.m., Stephenson refused to open up. He forced the woman to the floor between a bed and a wall, raised his hand and ordered her not to speak or move, a police report shows.

"Help - help me!" she managed to yell out, according to the report.

Police burst in and took Stephenson into custody without further incident.

He was not armed with any weapons, Collins said.

The woman told police Stephenson called her last week, said he was released from prison and was coming to see her.

He was booked into Butler County jail by 12:30 a.m. Thursday and charged with kidnapping for allegedly holding the woman inside the apartment against her will.

He also is held on a felony escape charge out of Kentucky.

Stephenson was serving five years in prison for a string of burglaries throughout Campbell County in 2009.

More than a dozen homes throughout Campbell County were burglarized in broad daylight within two weeks.

Just three months away from being paroled, Stephenson, along with a second inmate Michael Fleet, walked away from the Blackburn Correctional Facility on Saturday.

Fleet was serving a similar sentence for theft.

Authorities suspected Stephenson would return to the Tri-State since he is from Northern Kentucky.

Fleet remains on the run.

Blackburn Correctional Center is a minimum security prison for inmates with less than four years left in their sentence.
