Two men found dead inside vehicle that crashed into Springfield - Cincinnati News, FOX19-WXIX TV

Two men found dead inside vehicle that crashed into Springfield Township building after police chase, officials confirm.

A police pursuit early Friday ended with the fleeing vehicle crashing into a building that collapsed with two people possibly trapped inside.

Rescue workers have been trying to free the men, who are believed still trapped inside a silver 2000 Firebird, since shortly after the vehicle slammed into Finneytown Mower Sales & Services on West North Bend Road about 2:45 a.m.

Springfield Township police began chasing the car at 2:26 a.m. in the area of Daly Road and Meredith Drive.

Officers said they saw three male suspects breaking into cars on Meredith Drive, run through a backyard and hop into the Firebird.

The car took off. After a brief pursuit, police said they lost sight of the Firebird. A few minutes later, they spotted it crashed into the business at 1067 W. North Bend Rd.

The building had collapsed around the vehicle with all three occupants still inside.

"We can't make it to the car because of the integrity of the building here," an officer told a dispatcher, according to a recording of radio traffic.

One suspect was immediately taken into custody at gunpoint in the rear of the building at 2:47 a.m.

He suffered injuries in the crash and was taken to University of Cincinnati Medical Center, police said.

Hamilton County Urban Search & Rescue unit responded and have been trying to get into the building with a backhoe.

Duke Energy also arrived and cut the structure's power.

Cincinnati police Lt. Kevin York said Springfield Township police asked Cincinnati's traffic unit to investigate the crash.

The traffic unit investigates serious and fatal accidents.

The owner's daughter showed up at the scene about 6:30 a.m.

She said this is the second time in the last two years a vehicle has crashed into the business they have operated since 1987.

The future of the business is now unclear, she said.
