Officials hope new school will improve education

A new school in Cincinnati has teachers, students and parents abuzz about the future of the city's public school system.

Rockdale Academy is Cincinnati Public Schools' first new school in approximately 20 years. The 14 million dollar building opens today. Rockdale is the first tangible step in a ten-year, one billion dollar school construction project, which includes 60 new and renovated schools.

Rockdale has a science lab, a gymnasium with bleachers and a computer lab equipped to handle the latest technology. It also has air-conditioning and a modern heating system. The building is in the Cincinnati neighborhood of Avondale. Avondale resident Saundra Barnes' son Wayusi is a seventh-grader at Rockdale. She says she thinks the new building gives the students more excitement.
