Trash Hauler Widow

Widow of killed worker tries to help others

The widow of a garbage truck driver killed during a trash pickup is trying to save the lives of other garbage workers. Tammy Finch's husband, Steven, was killed when a sport utility vehicle pinned him against his truck in rural Warren County in January 2004. She then started a campaign to help prevent similar accidents. Tammy Finch and her sons, ten-year-old Charles and eight-year-old Mikael, have spoken out publicly and lobbied officials. Rumpke Consolidated Companies started the "Slow Down to Get Around" campaign. Company spokeswoman Amanda Wilson says they had five accidents last year in Ohio, Kentucky and Indiana. She says she doesn't remember any year with similar totals. Warren County is located about 20 miles northeast of Cincinnati.
