Daniel Davis, 50, was convicted for the murder of 79-year-old East Price Hill man John Lauck
According to the Hamilton County Sheriff's Office, Davis was found dead during a routine check while he was serving life in prison for murder. He was indicted on two counts of aggravated murder, two counts of murder, one count of aggravated robbery and one count of aggravated burglary for his death. Prosecutors said he was considered a repeat offender because he was convicted of rape in 1986.
According to the Hamilton County Prosecutor, Davis and Lauck knew each other for several weeks before the murder. Lauck had hired Davis to perform odd jobs around his home. On the day of the murder, Aug. 19, 2012, investigators believe Davis went to Lauck's home in order to rob him for money to support his heroin addiction.
One of Lauck's children found him dead in his home. The coroner said he died from stab wounds to the neck and chest as well as strangulation.
Prosecutors were previously seeking the death penalty, but jurors decided on life without parole on Sept. 12.
Authorities have not said how Davis got the heroin.
