LAWRENCEBURG, IN (FOX19) -

Lawrenceburg Police are looking for answers as to why someone vandalized the grave of a fallen officer over the weekend.

The headstone belonging to Detective Sgt. Thomas Cochran was found marked with spray paint, prompting the department to post on Facebook about the crime and seek help in identifying the perpetrators.

Cochran, a 35-year police veteran, died in a 2005 crash while on-duty. His grave is located in the Riverview Cemetery in Aurora, Ind.

On Monday, Lawrenceburg police say the gravestone was cleaned, but cannot confirm who cleaned the gravestone.

Police are still looking for who spray painted the grave.

Anyone with information about the vandalism is asked to call Lawrenceburg Police.
