NEWPORT, KY (FOX19) -

Mount Saint Joseph University's Lauren Hill got their own private showing of the Newport Aquarium Sunday morning.

The Cure Starts Now Foundation arranged the event after the trip to Newport Aquarium was among the events on a family activity to-do list that Hill's family submitted to the organization.

Hill has become a celebrity athlete and champion for Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma (DIPG), a rare form of brain cancer, since her inspirational story captured the sports world earlier this year.

According to a release, Hill was accompanied by her parents, brother, sister, and boyfriend's girlfriend.

Newport Aquarium Animal Ambassador Ric Urban guided the Hills on a tour that lasted nearly two hours.

The tour was highlighted by Lauren to go to the exhibit of one of her favorite animals, penguins. Hill got to visit The Penguin House, which has eight African penguins.

At the end of the tour, Hill was given made by Paula the Penguin and was given shark teeth.

Hill is leading a campaign to raise $1 million for The Cure Starts Now Foundation. The campaign says they are more than halfway to that goal.

How to give: Make checks payable to “The Cure Starts Now” and mail to:
