West Chester residents will officially welcome a new Chief of Police on Tuesday.

Captain Joel Herzog, a 23-year-veteran of the department, will be sworn in at the West Chester Board of Trustees meeting at 6 p.m.

Herzog will move from head of the Patrol Bureau, a position he's held since 2001, to chief of the 83 officers in the West Chester Police department. Outgoing chief Erik Neihaus resigned to become an attorney.

The public is welcome to a reception for Chief Herzog Tuesday night at 7 p.m. inside Township Hall.
