A job fair targeting veterans, students and parents will be held on Wednesday in Erlanger.

Advanced manufacturing jobs account for 10 percent of jobs in northern Kentucky and manufactures say they need to fill more than 600 positions every year as older employees retire or leave the workforce.

Eight Northern Kentucky manufacturers are participating in the fair, which is working to attract high school students and veterans, because many of their current employees are retiring and there is an increase in demand for their product.

Students and veterans can apply for a new apprentice program where they will go to school at Gateway Community and Technical College while working at a manufacturer and earning a paycheck.

The job fair begins at 4:30 Wednesday afternoon at the METS Center in Erlanger at 3861 Olympic Boulevard. It runs through 7:00 pm. Those accepted to the program will begin training in the fall. They will receive training and can land a high paying job, representatives say.
