Ohio inmate captured 22 years after escape

LONDON, OH (FOX19) -

A jail escapee is back in custody 22 years after he escaped from an Ohio jail.

Roger Perdue, 71, was arrested in Kokomo, Ind. Friday, 22 years after escaping from the London Correctional Institution in London, Oh.

Perdue was found after the Ohio State Highway Patrol Cincinnati office received a tip that he and his wife were living in Indiana.

He escaped the jail in March of 1992 after serving five months of a five-and-a-half year sentence for grand theft, authorities say.

On Friday, investigators received information that Perdue was planning to leave the area. The Indiana State Police was notified and confronted him at his home that night.

Police say Perdue turned himself over to authorities and was taken into custody.

Perdue is currently being held pending extradition back to Ohio.

The Ohio State Patrol, U.S. Marshals SOFAST Taskforce, Indiana State Police, Kokomo Police Department and the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Corrections worked jointly in this case.
