FOREST PARK, OH (FOX19) -

A 25-year-old man was arrested early Friday in connection with a deadly shooting outside a Northland Boulevard nightclub earlier this month.

Demetrus Chaney was booked into the Hamilton County jail just after midnight on one count of murder. He faced a judge at 9 a.m. Friday.

According to court records, Chaney shot innocent bystander Nyle Proffit, 25, twice during a fight after one of Chaney's friends was assaulted about 2 a.m. Dec. 6 outside Uptown Lounge.

Proffit was taken to University of Cincinnati Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

Chaney has admitted to the offense, records state. A grand jury will hear his case on Dec. 29.

While police were investigating the shooting, a separate shooting erupted in an adjoining parking lot.

That offense was not believed to be connected to the homicide, authorities have said.
