INDEPENDENCE, KY (FOX19) - A Florence hotel robbery suspect was killed in an officer-involved shooting in Independence Monday, Kentucky State Police have confirmed.

Independence Police located Allen Berly Todd Jr., 27, in the area of Carol Ann Lane and Cody Road in Independence around 10:30 a.m.

He was wanted for allegedly robbing the Magnuson Hotel in the 8000 block of Holiday Place in Florence.

According to police, the Magnuson Hotel clerk said Todd entered the hotel around 1:15 a.m. Monday morning and rang the service bell.

When the clerk came from the breakfast room to see who rang the service bell, Todd got out a gun and pointed it at him. Todd then demanded money from the clerk and the register. After taking the money, police say he fled out of the hotel on foot and got in a Ford Explorer.

As Florence police officers arrived on scene they attempted to stop Todd as he was leaving the lot. He refused to stop, leading police on a chase.

Officers followed Todd northbound on US-42. As he was turning from US-42 on to Mall Road, the Boone County Sheriff's Department spotted the vehicle and joined in the pursuit.

The pursuit continued northbound on Mall Road and then eastbound on KY-18, authorities say.

Todd proceeded to get on Interstate 75 as officers followed behind. He took the Mt. Zion Road exit and traveled eastbound on that road before turning on the I-75 northbound ramp. That's when the vehicle spun out of control and ended up in a ditch, officials say.

The suspect got out of the car and fled on foot into a wooded area. A K9 unit was called to help investigate but he was not located.

Todd was spotted by police in Independence later Monday morning. Police have not said which officer, or what agency, was involved in shooting and killing Todd.

An AirCare unit responded to the area in Independence but left around 11:40 a.m. without a patient.
