Brown County Coroner will keep her job

(FOX19) (FOX19)
BROWN COUNTY, OH (FOX19) - The Brown County Coroner will keep her job following a ruling from Ohio's court of appeals.

Tuesday, Ohio's 12th District Court of Appeals upheld the trial court's decision that there is 'insufficient evidence' to warrant Dr. Judith Varnau's removal from office.

This decision comes after a petition for Varnau's removal received more than 2,300 signatures.

The petition was originally started by the parents of Zachary Adamson, a war veteran who was found dead in his home in January. Varnua ruled his death a suicide but his parents say they believe she mishandled the investigation.

Attorneys familiar with the Adamson's complaint, as well as complaints from a few other families, say they stem from the ongoing feud between the coroner and the sheriff's office.

According to court documents, while the court determined that 'the narrow view of jurisdictional policy' between the two offices was 'cumbersome, inefficient, ineffectual and unnecessary,' and 'clearly not well suited to best practices,' this is a case for voters to decide, not a court.
