Bearcats earn impressive road win

The Cincinnati Bearcats put together arguably their best performance of the season Tuesday evening, defeating the North Carolina State Wolfpack 76-60.

The Bearcats (9-3) scored their second highest total of the season, including a 40 point first half.

This was the third consecutive game UC Head Coach Mick Cronin was not on the sideline due to a brain aneurysm. This was the first road game Cronin has missed,

The defensive effort got the Bearcats going from the beginning. UC forced five N.C. State turnovers before the first media timeout, giving the 'Cats an early 10-4 lead.

That lead expanded to 41-26 by halftime.

UC started the second frame with four straight field goals. The Bearcats stretched their lead to 19 points before eventually winning by 16.

"Best scouting report I've ever seen implemented by a coaching staff and carried out by a TRUE TEAM," Cronin said in a tweet after the win.

Associate Head Coach Larry Davis said after the game that even though Cronin is not on the sidelines. He is still involved in a different aspect.

"He's behind the scenes. He helped prepare for this game like he always does," Davis said. "He watched a lot of tape, we met, our whole staff does and he's a big reason we won. He's kind of the GM."

UC was led by Shaquille Thomas' 15 points. Octavius Ellis added 11 points and seven rebounds.

The Bearcats begin American Athletic Conference inside Fifth-Third Arena against SMU on Saturday, at 11:00 a.m.
