CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) -

It will cost you more to park in some Cincinnati neighborhoods starting Friday.

Most of the city's parking meters were old, especially in Over-the-Rhine, so officials switched to high-tech ones that will make paying easier.

But the upgrades come at a cost. Parking in Over-the-Rhine increases Friday to $1.00 an hour.

The Central Business District rate remains the same at $2.00 an hour. But the hours of operation for both of these areas are now 9:00 am to 9:00 pm Monday through Saturday and 2:00 pm to 9:00 p.m. Sunday.

The Over-the-Rhine meters also will accept debit and credit cards. Most meters in the Central Business District already were updated with the new technology.

At some locations you will be able to buy more than two hours at a time and, by mid-2015, some meters will have pay by smartphone capability.
