MT. AUBURN, OH (FOX19) - Cincinnati's first baby of 2015 was born early Thursday at Christ Hospital, hospital officials announced.

Jamie Altman and Charlie Wood welcomed Raelynn Hope Wood at 12:51 a.m., said hospital spokeswoman Amy Caruso.

Raelynn Hope arrived one week earlier than expected. She is the first child for Altman and Wood.

The infant weighed 6 pounds 3 ounces and is 19 1/2 inches long.

"It hasn't really sunk in yet,” said Altman.

Altman says she headed to the hospital two days ago when she realized Raelynn Hope may be on the way.

"I was actually at work about to get off work and she called me and said she had to go to the hospital and I just knew we were going to have the baby,” said Raelynn's father Charlie Wood.

After a scary start to labor, Christ Hospital doctors performed a C-section and brought Raelynn Hope into the world at 12:51 a.m. on January 1st.

"I was terrified,” said Wood.

Now that Raelynn is here, Wood says the toughest task of being a father beings. It is a job he wouldn't trade for the world.

"She's beautiful. I went from scared to happy really fast. It blows your mind. It really does,” said Wood.

St. Elizabeth Edgewood officials said a baby girl was born there at 12:52 a.m.

Baby Raelynn Hope and her mother will remain in Christ Hospital for a few more days. Jamie says what she is looking forward to getting some sleep as a new mom.
