Medicare members to pay out of network rates for UC Health

CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) -

Medicare Advantage members will have to pay out of network rates to visit a University of Cincinnati physician or receive care at a UC Health facility starting Thursday.

United Healthcare did not finalize an agreement with UC Health by the Dec. 31 deadline.

"It's a lot of people that that's the only hospital they know, that's the only hospital they are going to be able to go to and for them to lose their Medicare benefits at that hospital I think is a really, really, really disservice to them," said Medicare member Leroy Owens.

Patients have the option of switching to a traditional Medicare plan, but changes have to be made by Feb. 14.
