Ohio State upset Alabama 42-35 at the Sugar Bowl Thursday night to advance to the national championship for the first time since 2002.

The team will face Oregon in Dallas, Texas Jan. 12.

Quarterback Cardale Jones, in just his second career start, rushed for 43 and threw for 243 and a touchdown.

Running back Ezekiel Elliott rushed for 230 yards, including an 85-yard dash in the game's final minutes that pushed the team to victory.

"It felt great. Everything was clicking well," he said. "The offensive line was getting good push off the ball and it opened up big holes. All I had to do was run through them and break arm tackles."

"I tell you, I love these players," said Ohio State Coach Urban Meyer. "We didn't play Ohio State football that we preach and that's field position. We overcame it with some excellent efforts like you have to do at all times with the guys next to me. This is one of the great team wins we've ever been a part of because we didn't play well at times, but found a way to win."
