The Cincinnati Bearcats used a 15-2 run in the middle of the second half to defeat the SMU Mustangs 56-50.
The Bearcats were led by Farad Cobb's 18 points, including four three-point field goals.
The first half for the 'Cats was a sloppy one. In the first game after UC announced Mick Cronin would not be on the sideline for the rest of season due to an arterial dissection, UC and SMU combined for eight turnovers in the first 11 possessions. The Bearcats trailed 22-19 at the half, the lowest total for UC in a half this season.
Once the second half began, so did Farad Cobb. The junior guard scored nine consecutive points in under two minutes to catapult the Bearcats into a 35-30 lead. The spurt stretched to a 15-2 run, giving the 'Cats a 40-32 lead with 9:40 to go. UC did not trail the rest of the way.
Octavius Ellis scored 12 points and six rebounds, and Troy Caupain added seven points and four assists.
Next up for the 'Cats (10-3, 1-0) is a trip to East Carolina to take on the Pirates on Tuesday at 7:00 p.m.
