OVER-THE-RHINE (FOX19) -

Security video released by Cincinnati officials shows an Erlanger police officer accidentally shoot himself inside an Over-the-Rhine elevator.

Officer Daryl Jouett suffered non-life threatening injuries when his 40-caliber semiautomatic handgun discharged Saturday night at the Mercer Commons Parking Garage. The bullet ricocheted and struck the officer in the stomach.

Police documents state the incident happened while Jouett, who has been with Erlanger Police for 25 years, adjusted the gun on his waistband.

Authorities say Jouett was alert and conscious while medics transported him to University of Cincinnati Medical Center.

Jouett's wife was also in the elevator and was not harmed.
