UC cruises past East Carolina

The University of Cincinnati Bearcats used stifling defense to defeat the East Carolina Pirates 69-48.

UC held the Pirates to just 27 percent from the floor, including just 22.7 percent from the three-point line.

Freshman Gary Clark stuffed the stat sheet for the Bearcats. The forward totaled eight points, 16 rebounds, three assists, four steals and four blocks Tuesday night. Junior center Octavius Ellis scored 12 points and grabbed nine rebounds.

A team often maligned for their offensive deficiencies, the Bearcats shot 47 percent from the field.

"We definitely had a great performance defensively, but every game we can always find something to do and improve offensively," sophomore guard Kevin Johnson said. "That's the thing about this team, that's the best thing about us. We still feel like we've got a long way."

The Bearcats have now won four straight since the 21 point loss to the VCU Rams.

Up next, UC (11-3 2-0) travels to Hartford, Conn. to take on the Huskies Saturday at 11 a.m.
