South Carolina authorities say eight people have been killed and more than 240 sickened after a freight train carrying chlorine gas struck a parked train. The accident happened early Thursday in Graniteville, which is near the Georgia state line. All 54-hundred people within a mile of the accident were ordered to evacuate during the afternoon. One resident says the are still smells like a swimming pool, but much stronger. All but one of the victims apparently died from inhaling chlorine fumes. A state senator says five victims died in a textile mill near the site. At least eight of those injured are in critical condition. A state official says the cleanup could take several days.
