OVER THE RHINE, OH (FOX19) -

A cab driver is recovering after being shot in the chest early Saturday morning.

According to Cincinnati Police, a Luxury Taxi driver was shot in the chest during a robbery attempt near the intersection of Liberty Street and Sycamore Street around 1:30 a.m.

Bronco Milific, co-owner of Luxury Taxi, has identified the driver to FOX19 NOW as Abdinasir Warsame.

Police identified the suspect as 18-year-old Lateef Dean.

Milific says Warsame picked up the suspect at Newport on the Levee and drove him to the intersection of Liberty Street and Sycamore Street. That is when the suspect pulled a gun demanding money from Warsame.

Police say the suspect shot Warsame and ran away from the cab. While attempting to flee the scene the suspect was hit by a vehicle.

Warsame and the suspect were transported to the University of Cincinnati Medical Center. Milific says Warsame is expected to recover.

Dean was arrested and was charged with aggravated robbery and possession of drugs.
