UCONN hands Bearcats first AAC loss

University of Connecticut ended the Cincinnati Bearcats four-game winning streak Saturday afternoon 62-56.

The Huskies held UC to just nine points the final 10 minutes of regulation, helping them pull away from the Bearcats.

UCONN guard Ryan Boatright led all scorers with 18 points and eight assists. Fellow guards Omar Calhoun scored 12 points and Rodney Purvis chipped in 11 for the Huskies.

The Bearcats were led by Troy Caupain's 14 points. UC falls to 2-1 in AAC play and 11-4 overall.

The 'Cats was able to cut the UCONN lead to 55-53 with 2:19 to go in the game, but the Huskies made seven free throws in the final 1:47 leading to the win.

The game featured strong post defense throughout. The Bearcats blocked 10 UCONN shots, including six by Octavius Ellis.

Next the Bearcats travel to Memphis (8-6, 1-2) to take on the Tigers Thursday evening at 7:00 p.m.
