CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) -

UC scored 55 second half points and put up a season-high total in points in a 84-53 win over Temple Saturday. Kevin Johnson and Jermaine Sanders each had career nights in the Bearcats most lopsided win of the season.

After leading 29-28 at the half, UC outscored Temple 55-25 in the second half. The Bearcats hit their first 11 shots to open the half, led by Johnson with 14 points and Sanders with 16 points. Octavius Ellis added 13 points and Gary Clark poured in 11 points. The Bearcats also hit nine three-pointers and shot 77 percent from the field in the second half.

“As well as we shot it, that will come and go, only turning it over eight times was the best thing we did on offense,” said UC interim head coach Larry Davis. “It was huge that we bounced back today."

Coming off a two-game losing streak on the road, UC head coach Mick Cronin, out for the season for treatment of an illness, gave the team a pep talk the night before the game.

"It was like that father-son talk you have with your dad that you really hate to hear, but you have to hear it and it's just real,” said Kevin Johnson. “It made us realize what we need to do, how we need to play and fend for each other."

UC (12-5, 3-2) returns home on Wednesday night when they host Houston at 7 p.m.
