John Boehner told a group of reporters on Wednesday that Bartender Mike's threats hit close to home.
On Jan. 7, Michael Hoyt was indicted after FBI officials said he made the threats to the Speaker of the House last fall. Hoyt told police he was Jesus Christ, and he was going to kill Speaker Boehner because Boehner was mean to him and caused ebola.
The Speaker of the House talked with a group of reporters a day after the President's State of the Union address.
When the threats came up in conversation, Boehner told reporters receiving death threats was a monthly occurrence. Hoyt's threat felt credible.
"It's one thing when you get a threat from a thousand miles away," Boehner said to the reporters. "It's another thing when it's a few doors down."
Documents say Hoyt had a gun when officials searched his residence.
