SB I-71 reopens after police chase, crash

All lanes are open on southbound Interstate 71 at Smith Road after a police chase with speeds near 100 mph and a crash snarled traffic Thursday morning.

Officials say that the Lebanon Post was notified at approximately 8:30 a.m. of a reckless driver a red Ford Fusion on I-71 in Warren County. Troopers were dispatched to the call and located the vehicle traveling southbound on I-71 near Western Row Road in Warren County.

Upon initiating a traffic stop, the vehicle fled, police said.

According to authorities, troopers and officers from multiple agencies pursued the suspect until he crashed on I-71 just north of Dana Avenue.

Police identified the driver as Aaron Teofilo, 19, of Alabama. 

Teofilo suffered facial injuries when the vehicle he fled authorities in crashed about 8:45 a.m., according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol. 

He was taken into custody and transported to UC Medical Center for treatment. 

Authorities say a loaded firearm was located in the vehicle but the ownership of the vehicle is being. 

Teofilo will be charged with feeling and eluding, carrying a concealed weapon, reckless operation and other appropriate charges, according to police. 

Police had to close all but one lane of the highway for nearly two hours while they investigated.
