Cincinnati didn't allow a single point in the final four minutes of regulation to beat Central Florida 56-46 and pick up their first road victory in American Conference play on Sunday.
“It was an ugly, grind it out, game,” said UC associate head coach Larry Davis. “It wasn't a thing of beauty until the end.”
Kevin Johnson paced the Bearcats with a game-high 13 points, the only Bearcat in double figures. Troy Caupain added 9 points. Octavius Ellis scored 8 points and pulled in 10 rebounds off the bench.
The Bearcats recent road struggles have been a result of turnovers. In Orlando, UC committed just 9 turnovers, and forced the Knights to shoot 32.7 percent from the field.
“When you hold a team to 46 points, you feel pretty good that you're going to win,” said Larry Davis. “Big credit to the kids. They hung in there and kept battling.”
UC improves to 14-5 (5-2 AAC). The Bearcats return home to host UConn Thursday at 8 p.m.
