Negotiations are continuing between union representatives and four northwestern Indiana casinos. There's a strike deadline set for Friday, and a union spokeswoman says she hopes an agreement can be reached before then.
The union represents about 850 housekeepers, servers, cooks and bartenders at the casinos in East Chicago, Michigan City and Gary. The union wants more wages and health insurance. Spokeswoman Clare Fauke says both sides are serious but there are still unresolved issues.
The union has been negotiating with the riverboats since September, when the union said 93 percent of its members voted to authorize a strike. Union contracts have expired since then.
