WAYNESVILLE, OH (FOX19) -
One year ago, an 18-year old man in Waynesville was brutally murdered, and his body dumped in Preble County.

On Wednesday, the one-year anniversary of the murder of Justin Back, his family, friends and community are remembering him with the power of social media through the hashtag, #PIF4Justin.

If you search the hashtag on various social media platforms, you'll find a lot of tweets with people paying it forward in small acts of kindness in Back's name.

"We all wanted to band together to turn the negative into a positive, and to try to remember this day in a special way and not for the tragedy that it was,” said Josh Patrick of Pat's Place, a convenience store in Waynesville.

The tragedy is the murder of Justin Back, a young man set to head to the Navy.  The positive is a small thing like a fresh doughnuts at Pat's Place or a donation to scholarships in Back's name.

"We've had folks donate other things and pay it forward it in other ways, buy lottery tickets for the next person few people that come in.  Little things that can brighten somebody's day,” Patrick said.

Austin Myers, who is now on death row, and Timothy Mosley who is locked up for life without parole, have been convicted in Back's murder.

"It's made this day bearable.  It's been really hard today.  But, this made us smile,” said Sandy Cates, mother of Justin Back.

That's the idea for this random acts of kindness campaign.  The movement is designed to shed some light on a dark day, and to do something small that can go a long way, put a smile on someone's face and keep alive the memory of a young man.

"He touched so many hearts and he's still doing that.  It's just so amazing,” said Cates.
