An outcry online has a Utah high school defending their dress code.
Gabi Finalyson, 15, said she was forced to wear a winter coat during the Lone Peak High School school dance because officials said her dress was ‘too inappropriate' and violated the dress code, which required straps to be two inches across each shoulder.
Gabi claimed her straps did meet the 2-inch requirement, according to People.
Gabi said classic beauty Audrey Hepburn was the inspiration for her dress and that she was shocked the school found it too revealing. Although she said the incident made her feel embarrassed, there is a takeaway lesson.
"Maybe instead of teaching girls that they should cover themselves up, we should be teaching boys that we're not sex objects that they can look at,” Gabi told KUTV.
The school is standing behind the dress code despite the controversy, KUTV reports.
