LINCOLN HEIGHTS, OH (FOX19) - The Hamilton County Sheriff's Office has stepped up patrols after a 19-year-old man died in a shooting that put nearby Lincoln Heights Elementary on temporary lockdown Thursday afternoon.

Jeremy Nelson was found with multiple gunshot wounds in the street in the 600 block of Van Buren Avenue just before 4 p.m., said Hamilton County Sheriff Jim Neil.

He was taken to University of Cincinnati Medical Center where he died in the operating room, county records show.

Police are searching for a suspect last seen running from the scene running east on Van Buren Avenue through a wooded area.  He is described as a male black wearing all brown clothing.  A K-9 unsuccessfully tracked for the suspect.

Lincoln Heights Elementary was put on temporary lockdown but all of the students and staff were safe, Princeton school officials said.

The Hamilton County Sheriff's Criminal Investigation Section is investigating.

No arrests have been made, and authorities have not said what led up to the shooting. A sheriff's office spokesman said patrols have been increased.

Anyone with information are asked to contact the sheriff's patrol at 825-1500, the Criminal Investigation Section at 851-6000 or CrimeStoppers at 352-3040
