Where to get free tax prep in the Tri-State

Families and individuals who earned $60,000 or less in 2014 can take advantage of free in-person tax preparation services at locations across the Tri-State.

A list of all locations, their opening dates and hours of operation can be found at makeworkpay.com.

United Way of Greater Cincinnati and its partners are staffing volunteers at over 30 locations in Hamilton, Clermont and Butler counties in Ohio, Northern Kentucky and Southeast Indiana.

In addition to free state and federal tax preparation and online filing, filers will receive help determining eligibility for and claiming the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC). Workers who earned between $14,340 (single with no children) and $51,567 (married filing jointly with three or more qualifying children) may be eligible for the credit.

People interested in taking advantage of the free tax service need to have the following available:

• Valid photo I.D.

• Social Security or Individual Tax Identification Numbers for each family member and working adult

• W2s, 1098s, 1099s, Social Security statement and other income forms

• Form 8332 for non-custodial parents claiming child

• Childcare provider name, address and tax ID

• Student loan interest/college tuition expenses paid

• Bank routing and account numbers for checking and savings accounts

Filers with internet access and an income of $60,000 or less can also take advantage of free online filing at myfreetaxes.com. The free online service is sponsored through a partnership between United Way, the Walmart Foundation, Goodwill Industries International, and the National Disability Institute.

For more information about free tax preparation services, call United Way 211 by dialing 2-1-1.
