COLERAIN TOWNSHIP, OH (FOX19) - Vandals have struck in Colerain Township targeting vehicles with rocks, spray paint and other types of damage.

Colerain police say the reports of vandalism started coming in Saturday night. Dozens of the reports came from all over the township. Police brought in off duty officers to take reports.

Sgt. Dale Woods says that there are at least 45 victim but it's unclear on who the vandals are.

“Every once in a while we get some cases of criminal damaging, but this widespread it was pretty overwhelming today. More than usual,” Sgt. Woods said.

Senseless acts of destruction that has the victims like Don Johnson wondering why.

“I opened the back door up and that's when I seen all the glass and the rock in there,” Johnson said.

Johnson's truck was also spray painted as it sat just outside of his home, but he says he doesn't understand why.

“We've never had anything like this and it just dumbfounds me and it makes me really angry because I worked hard, you know, to pay for my cars and now this happens to me and it was sitting in the driveway and somebody had to physically get out of their car and come up and spray paint this,” Johnson said.

The vandals targeted vehicles all over the township including the windshield of a pick-up truck in the Lakehills subdivision. The owner found a couple of rocks lying nearby.  A short distance down the same road the side window and windshield of a van were damaged.

Sgt. Woods says he's left with a nagging question.

“We just can't understand why somebody would do this,” Sgt. Woods said.

Police say they've stepped up patrols across the township and they're asking citizens to report suspicious activity.

Anyone with information on the vandalism are asked to contact Colerain Township police at 513-385-7504
