Police ID driver who stole SUV, led police on chase that ended in crash

Police identified the man killed in a crash after stealing a sport utility vehicle and leading them on a high speed chase as Darrell Nealey, 46, of Cincinnati.

Leah Mullins contacted authorities Tuesday and reported her boyfriend stole her SUV Jan. 15 but told her he was 'tired of running' and to meet him at the White Castle in Newport.

Police send two cruisers to the fast food restaurant. Once Nealey saw the cruisers, he drove off the lot. 

Offices activated their emergency lights and tried to pull the SUV over at 5th and York streets, but Nealey sped off, sparking a pursuit ran into neighboring Bellvue, where he ran a traffic light near the intersection of Fairfield Avenue and Berry Street. 

The SUV struck another car and then slammed into a pole on the northeast corner of the crossroads.

Nealey was pronounced dead at the scene. A 70-year-old woman in the other vehicle that was hit suffered minor injuries.

"I was sitting in my living room watching TV. All of a sudden I hear police coming. I hear, 'boom!' My daughter comes running in, the police are up here and there's a car up here turned over,” said Linda Woodall, who lives nearby the scene.
