Fort Mitchell police chief released from hospital after SB I-75 accident

FORT MITCHELL, KY (FOX19) -

A Fort Mitchell police chief was involved in a a serious auto accident that was caused by icy conditions on southbound Interstate 75 at Dixie Highway Thursday morning.

Fort Mitchell police say police chief Jeff Eldridge was assisting with the accident when his vehicle was hit by another vehicle. 

He was released from the hospital Thursday afternoon with painful contusions, Fort Mitchell police said. 

One lane of the highway was shut down after an officer and another motorist suffered minor injuries when their vehicles were struck from behind about 11 a.m.

The highway fully closed for about 10 minutes while crews treated icy lanes with salt.

All lanes reopened by noon.
