The prison sentence was reduced Thursday for a Cincinnati police officer convicted for receiving nude photos from a 17-year-old girl in the Explorers program he ran.

Darrell Beavers, 45, is convicted of illegal use of a minor in sexually oriented material and attempted tampering with evidence between June and September 2013.

The ex-cop has already served 99 days and will spend an additional 180 days behind bars – about three months under the initial 12-month sentence a judge in October handed down.

Beavers has been held at a Lima, Ohio prison under complete segregation due to his status as a police officer. Thursday's hearing granted him judicial release to the Hamilton County Justice Center.

In September of 2013, the parent of a 17-year-old Cincinnati Police Explorer expressed concerns about his daughter's contact with Beavers. Cincinnati Police Explorers is a program set up for teens who may be interested in a career in law enforcement.

An internal investigation was launched. Detectives discovered Beavers had set up a fake substation in the 2600 block of Bushnell Street in East Price Hill where police found a bed, personal lubricant, videos and a night vision camera belonging to Cincinnati police.
