After its worse loss of the season at East Carolina, the Bearcats answered with what could have been their best performance in a 62-54 win at No. 23 SMU Thursday.

Cincinnati trailed 25-20 at the half after committing 13 turnovers and grabbing zero offensive rebounds, but they came alive in the second half. Troy Caupain, who finished with 14 points, helped the Bearcats get out to an 8-1 run and take a 28-26 lead early in the final 20 minutes. SMU battled back to take a 44-43 lead with 7:45 to play, before UC would finish the game on a 19-10 run to close the door.

The Bearcats shot 7-of-12 from three-point range and fired a steaming hot 56.8 percent from the field, making 21 of their 37 attempts. Jermaine Sanders led the Bearcats with a game-high 15 points, while Farad Cobb added 14 points.

SMU has lost twice in their last 18 games, both times against UC. The Bearcats pick up their second win over a ranked team this season, one of only two teams in the American Athletic Conference to beat a ranked opponent.

UC (16-6, 7-3) returns to action Saturday night at Fifth Third Arena against South Florida at 8 p.m.
