Chabot urges Egypt to return ambassador to Israel, hold mini-summit
An Ohio Republican congressman urged Egypt's president today to return his country's ambassador to Israel to support Middle East peace efforts.
US Representative Steve Chabot also says Hosni Mubarak should invite newly elected Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas and Israeli Premier Ariel Sharon to a mini-summit to build on growing momentum toward resolving the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Chabot is from Cincinnati. Egypt withdrew its ambassador to Israel in 2002 to protest Israeli military actions against Palestinians. Egyptian officials were not available for comment on Chabot's calls. Mubarak also met with former Democratic presidential candidate John Kerry and US Representative Robert Wexler, a Florida Democrat.
